Denk aan de volgende 8 stappen (overgenomen van onderstaande instructiefilm, dus in het Engels):
- Shoot on the shadow side (move the camera to the other side of the light).
- Use 45 degrees angle of lighting (create the upside down triangle) “rembrandt lighting”.
- Use separation (warm orange light on subjects face, and blue complimentary light in the background) (or darker background).
- Create motivated lighting (light has to COME from somewhere, so the audience knows the source of light is coming from somewhere natural).
- Use background lighting.
- Use the correct time of day – 6 am, 6 pm, never film 12 pm (geeft hard licht, dus harde schaduwen).
- Create a catch light/eye light (“poppetjes in de ogen” brengen mensen tot leven).
- Use a fog/haze machine (geeft meer textuur aan je beeld).
Met o.a. Motivated lighning = gemotiveerd licht (belichting) = bij gebruik van kunstlicht lampen moet het voor de kijker duidelijk (en dus logisch) zijn waar het licht (zogenaamd) vandaan komt.
